Faster & Faster Feb09 - Mar 09

Despite all intentions, the author of this blog had to concentrate on his day job for these months so press releases and details were non-existant. The time trial however continued as usual with times improving consistently.

There were a few notable incidents. Barry Spencer did a good job wrecking himself on one of the bumpy downhills when he broke his collarbone and added a few bruises. A few weeks later Chris Morgan did a similar stunt and insurance premiums for MTB'ers in Swaziland went up across the board. 

The fastest men's time for the 2008/9 season went to Craig Randal with a 41min43 effort, with Ara Monadjem clocking a 41min58 best, to also slip under the 42 minute barrier. (Note: the author remembers talk that Ara had listed a time of under 41min, but when collating timesheets this could not be found. There was a little bit of confusion with un-dated timesheets, so apologies Ara if you have been short-changed).

With only 2 seconds separating them, third quickest was Robert Bie with a 42min37, then  the evergreen Kim Roques with 42min38 and Denzyl McFadden with 42min39.

The fastest lady was Lucinda Bride with a solid 49min29 time, followed by Nicky Lemmer with a 54min30 showing and Nadja Shields with 55m17.


As an indication for first-timers wishing to join, the slowest time of the season was just under an hour and a half. First-timers and novices are welcome.


A total of 20 time trials were run from November to March and with the days getting shorter, the season ended on the 25th March with a cumulative list of 101 cyclists having participated in the timetrial at one stage or another.
